Copenhagen City Guide – Food

We are only a few days away from our visit to Copenhagen. We can not be more excited about this trip. Elise and I spent the Christmas separated with our families in Florida and Madrid, so this will be our time together, if work is not in the middle.

– Geranium2

  • Why: because we need to understand why Chef Rasmus Kofoed  won the Bocuse d’Or last year – January 2011

  • Why: new Claus Meyer Restaurant, recommended by Monocle

  • Why: do we need to explain why?.

– Manfreds:

  • Why: because it is the new restaurant from the Relae team: Christian Puglisi and Kim Rossen,  former sous chef and waiter from Noma. I hear they have one of the best brunch in town.

– Geist:

  • Why: because it is new restaurant from Bo Bech, who left his original restaurant Paustian and bakery. And most important it opens Sunday, when most of the city is closed.

– Herman:

  • Why: great design in Nimb hotel and best new restaurant 2011. Great lunch.

– Relae:

  • Why: because it is probably the best restaurant for the money, as most of them from Noma alumnus

Other restaurants worth mentioning Kiin Kiin – Thai in Copenhagen, Søllerød Kro, a historic coaching inn to the north of Copenhagen in Holte, with chef Jakob de Neergaard, Henne Kirkeby Kro and  Fiskebar the Eleven Madison Park of Fish.

Food Market:

– “Torvehallerne”

  • Why: (Recommended by Jakob Koch Nielsen ) Food market that just opened, on weekends you find farmers from different parts of Denmark, foragers and several other interesting things.
  • Where:near Nørreport train station.

Snacks/Coffe Shops:

– Aamanns Etabilssementet

  • Why: cheap restaurant home of the smørrebrød ( half sandwich )
  • Where: Øster Farimagsgade 10,  aamanns.dk. or

– Dop Organic Hot Dog.

  • Why: favorite spot for the locals. Den Økologiske Pølsemand (the organic hotdog man), or Døp for short, serves grilled pork and beef sausages with buns made from slow-fermented sourdough bread and linseed.
  • Where: 

– Meyer’s Deli:

  • Why: Nordic deli for quick bites
  • Where: Gammel Kongevej 107, 1850 Frederiksberg. Denmark

– The Coffee Collective

  • Why: on of the best baristas in Copenhagen, inside the market.
  • Where: see Torvehallerne market

– Estate Coffe

  • Why: great coffee,  the menu offers various exciting based drinks and concoctions of Valrhona chocolate and espresso – based on our espresso blends 4-Estates and Tres Flores.
  • Where: Gammel Kongevej 1, DK-1610 Copenhagen V

– Risteriet

  • Why: tiny coffeebar/shop that roasts their own beans and have small shop. Best in downtown.
  • Where: Studiestraede 36, Copenhagen 1455, Denmark

– La Glace

  • Why: the oldest and probably best confectionary in Denmark. Founded in the middle of old Copenhagen.
  • Where: Skoubogade 3 – 1158 København – Tlf.: 33 14 46 46

– Granola

  • Why: nice 1930 recreation coffee shop
  • Where: Værnedamsvej 5  1819 Frederiksberg, Denmark
